What Are The Biggest Challenges Mothers Face While Raising Their Kids?

Parenting is one of the toughest jobs on earth and no one understands that better than mothers. Motherhood can be a rewarding experience but it clearly is not a cake-walk. You grow and learn and make mistakes as much as your children do. You are confronted by challenges every day. But don’t be disheartened, it is part of the job description of being a mom. The challenges come both from the child as well as from within yourself. But, being frustrated and helpless does not mean you are failing as a parent, it shows that you care. So, let us look at some of the challenges that mothers worldwide face when they are rearing their children and find out what is the best way you can deal with these issues.

1. Digital addiction

Children of all ages are hooked to cell phones these days. Whether it is cartoons, online games, YouTube, social media, phones are the only source of entertainment and it is very difficult to pry them away from their phones. As a result, it affects their school grades, their attention span dwindles and they hardly mingle with their family members or play with their contemporaries. And if you forcefully take their phone away, there will be temper tantrums.
Sounds familiar? Well, digital addiction is probably the commonest challenge moms face these days.
But don’t worry, there is a way out. Engage your child in an activity that provides the same level of excitement as the cell phone. Probe your child and find out his/her interests. And then enroll them in that activity- it could be painting, recitation, musical instruments, pottery etc.

2. Fussy eating
Little children are often spoiled by their loved ones who shower them with food that taste good but are harmful for their health, like chocolates, potato chips, rolls and others. It kills their appetite, fills them with toxins and worst of all make them despise healthy foods like vegetables.
The solution is patience. Explain to your little one the importance of healthy eating. They may be small, but they are intelligent. You can even make stories up about what happens when you eat unhealthy food to scare them a little.

3. Unwilling to study
Another problem that sometimes seems impossible to surmountable is when your children refuse to study. They procrastinate, do not complete their homework and their attention may not be focussed on their studies. So what do you do? Firstly you or your husband should sit down with your child and actively participate in the learning process. Be interactive to make the study session fun. Use learning apps that use fun animation and graphics which speed up learning. Your children will love it if you learn with them. This will have the added bonus of strengthening the bond between parent and child.

4. Aggression
Most children go through this phase at some point and it makes things tense and difficult for the mothers. Children can be rude, unkind and say or do cruel things. Screaming and breaking things might be common.
This is actually a serious problem because aggressive behaviour is always the result of stress. Your child is going through an emotional crisis. Perhaps he/she is being bullied at school, or the behaviour of adults within the family is upsetting your child, or your child has some kind of an inferiority complex. It is vital to sit down and have a heart to heart conversation with your child so that you can take the right action.

5. Sibling rivalry
All mothers of two or more children face this problem. Siblings vie for supremacy when it comes to your attention, school grades, performance in extra-curricular activities. This rivalry may even turn into downright hatred for each other. This will sour things within your family.
How do you resolve this? Sit down with your children and explain to them that you love them both equally and tell them that they are both gifted and talented. And then you might have to do some introspection. Ask yourself, are you giving them both equal attention? If not, you have to change yourself to end the rivalry.

Raising is a child is a tremendous responsibility. And it is not an easy journey. But you are not alone. Mothers everywhere face these issues. All you have to do is be kind, sensitive and determined. Nothing can stop this beautiful lifelong relationship from blossoming.
